I recently re-watched a video I made almost 5 years ago on the topic of Dry Brushing. Somehow over 100,000 people have watched it. Who knew Dry Brushing would be so popular! I find it a great compliment to my daily routine that connects me to my body, my intuition, and keeps me on my conscious healing path. That said, I don’t dry brush every day. I tend to move through dry brushing in waves. I will dry brush before a shower everyday for weeks, and then suddenly I’ll realize that I forgot for a few days. When I forget to dry brush after a few weeks of religiously keeping up with my routine I know that my body has told me I’ve had enough dry brushing.
I can’t tell you how important it is to have a regular routine to our days and health pursuing individuals. But that comes with a huge caveat. Once that routine becomes rigid and ingrained then it becomes a deterrent to our health. When we have rigidity in our lives, too much structure, obsessive tendencies then our body will be acidic no matter what we do. The most powerful way to acidify our body is to have negative thoughts. And it is all too easy for us to shame ourselves into “healthy living practices.” No amount of raw green smoothies can combat that source of acidity! (Believe me I tried!) Only a change in how we perceive ourselves in the world can help keep an alkaline balance. This is where Intuitive Nutrition comes in. Intuitive Nutrition is the process of learning how to feed your body exactly what it needs by listening very closely. Intuition speaks softly so you have to be mindful and pay attention. And I’m not just talking about food, I’m also talking about how we feed our soul, our mind, our introvert, our extrovert. Essentially all aspects of our Self. Discovering Intuition is a slow magical process. Here is a simple tip to help.
Take a moment out of everyday in your routine, and ask yourself a question about what you are about to do. Maybe it goes something like this:
Do I want a shower or bath? (Sometimes a 40minute epsom salt soak is better than a morning yoga practice.)
Do I want oatmeal or french toast for breakfast? (I premake oatmeal the night before, but sometimes I wake up and say No to it.)
Do I want this dandelion tea or a coffee? (Right now the answer is a Macchiato
Let your body decide. Let your Intuition take over. You will know what you really need.
So, I finish with this video. Dry brushing is amazing! But not when it is fanatical
